Jalyn Morgan is in her sixth year as paraprofessional with the band program here in Manistee. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Western Michigan University, and is certified in band instrument repair from Minnesota State College - Southeast Technical. Prior to living in Manistee, Ms. Morgan worked for several years repairing instruments for a small music store. Now she is using her music training and background in different ways every day. Ms. Morgan has been a French Horn player for most of her life, but is grateful to have learned to play every instrument (at least a little) now that she is working with bands. Cindy Swan-Eagan has been teaching at Manistee Public Schools since 1982. She received her Bachelors of Music in Music Education and Bassoon Performance from Western Michigan University, and her Masters of Music Education from Vandercook College of Music in Chicago, Illinois. She currently serves as the Second Past President of the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association, also serving on the Music Selection Committee, Commissions Committee, and chairing the Futures Committee of that same organization. She is a past Chairman of the Board of the Michigan Music Conference, and is the first Past President of the American School Band Directors Association. She has served on the Planning Committe for the Michigan Music Conference for many years. In addition, she is the Secretary of the ASBDA Foundation, a charitable foundation funding programs which future band music education research and programs for band educators. She is an active adjudicator for solo & ensemble and band & orchestra evaluations around Michigan, and is an active guest lecturer, clinician and conductor. In the summer, she is on the conducting staff at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and has been a guest speaker/teacher at Western Michigan University, Central Michigan University, for the MSBOA Survival Camp, Elementary & Middle Level Workshop, Adjudication Workshop, Midwestern Conference on School Vocal and Instrumental Music, and the Michigan Music Conference. For two years, she was the interim director of the West Central Concert Band at Ferris State University. Under her direction, the Manistee High School Band, as well as the Manistee 8th Grade Band, have performed for numerous Michigan and National level conventions of Music Educators. Mrs. Swan-Eagan was nationally recognized by Chamber Music America for outstanding chamber music teaching, by VanderCook College of Music and the VanderCook College Alumni Association as both a Music Education Leader and as a Distinguished Alumi, and in 2000 was elected by her peers as Michigan's Band Teacher of the Year. In addition, she received the Western Michigan Univeristy Pioneer of Music Education Award in January of 2011, one of only 3 people to have received the award to date. She is also a mixed media artist, with pieces hanging in private collections around the country. |
